    Food & Wine Classes

Tell me more about the cooking classes!  Make your evening unique by taking a cooking class in the Culinary Kitchen that overlooks The Prado at Balboa Park’s decorated terraces and luscious gardens.  Our cooking school prides itself on making each class creative, unique, and fun by using expert chefs who know how to make the art of cooking entertaining!  Just sit back and relax as you observe local chefs prepare a unique multi-course meal while they narrate their every stir, pour, and sauté!  Enjoy a glass of wine, good conversation, and sampling the scrumptious cuisine as trained, fine dining waiters of The Prado at Balboa Park take care of your every culinary need!  Recipe packets of each delicious dish are provided as souvenirs of the enchanting evening. You are welcome to arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of class to select your seating.  Classes typically last between 2 to 3 hours long. Don’t forget to punch your Frequent Food & Wine Club card because after attending 6 classes, the 7th class is free!

Tell me more about the wine tasting classes!  Settle into the candlelit Sala del Rey, the House of Hospitality’s rustic wine room with hand-stenciled ceilings, vintage wine barrels, and glowing candelabras. Sip and savor well into the night as our chosen wine expert describes the regions, flavors, and little known facts about each wine being sampled.  Our wine tasting classes feature informal and open discussions of wine basics, wine & chocolate pairings, or wine & cheese pairings.  All wine tasting classes include light nibblers of artisan bread and cheeses, gourmet meats, and seasonal fruits to cleanse the palate.  And don’t forget to jot down your new wine tasting tips in your provided wine training packets!

Are the classes hands-on?  Most of our cooking classes are observational, but we do offer a few classes that allow limited hands-on participation, such as our monthly sellout sushi or fondue classes! Watch as a sushi chef makes the most delicious (and fresh!) sushi rolls; then create your own hand rolls while he offers guidance every step of the way! In our fabulous fondue classes, a local artisan cheese whiz will share her secrets of selecting the best cheeses, the yummiest dippers, and keeping it simple!
